GAUGE:

25 sts = 4 in. (10 cm) in Garter st (k every row) with A. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

STITCH EXPLANATION:

M1 (make 1) An increase worked by lifting the horizontal thread lying between the needles and placing it onto left needle. Knit this new stitch through the back K2, p2 Rib Row 1: K2, *p2, k2, rep from * across. Row 2: K the knit sts and p the purl sts. Rep Row 2 for K2, p2 Rib.

SCARF
Cast on 3 sts.
Row 1: Sl first st, k to end of row.
Row 2: Sl first st, M1, k to end of row.
Rep last 2 rows until there are 34 sts total on your needle.
Work in Garter st on these 34 sts until piece measures 25 in. (63.5 cm) from beg.
Change to K2, p2 rib and work until piece measures 29 in. (73.5 cm) from beg.
Bind off.

FINISHING
Fold ribbed portion of Scarf horizontally in half. Sew bound-off edge of ribbing to first row of ribbing to make a loop.
Following package directions, make 2 medium pompoms with A; 2 small and 1 large pompom with B.
Tie pompoms to Scarf, just above ribbed portion. Weave in ends.
