GAUGE:

13 sts = 4 in. (10 cm) in Garter st (k every row). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

STITCH EXPLANATION:

K1, p1 Rib Row 1: *K1, p1; rep from * across. Row 2: K the knit sts and p the purl sts. Rep Row 2 for K1, p1 Rib.

HAT
With A, cast on 52 sts.
Work in K1, p1 Rib until piece measures 1 1/2 in. (4 cm) from beg. Change to Garter st (k every row) and work until piece measures 3 in. (7.5 cm) from beg.
Next (Dec) Row: *K11, k2tog; rep from * across – 48 sts at end of row.
Knit 3 rows.
Next (Dec) Row: *K10, k2tog; rep from * across – 44 sts.
Knit 3 rows.
Next (Dec) Row: *K9, k2tog; rep from * across – 40 sts.
Knit 3 rows.
Next (Dec) Row: *K8, k2tog; rep from * across – 36 sts.
Knit 3 rows.
Next (Dec) Row: *K7, k2tog; rep from * across – 32 sts.
Knit 3 rows.
Next (Dec) Row: *K6, k2tog; rep from * across – 28 sts.

Cut yarn, leaving a long tail. Thread tail through remaining sts and gather tightly together. Sew seam.

With B and C, embroider French knots randomly onto Hat. Knot a short length of B to top of Hat to form a loop. Weave in ends.
