Lion Brand® LB Collection® Superwash Merino
28 sts = 4 in. (10 cm) in St st worked in the rnd (k every rnd). When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size
specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be
sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what
the designer used, but is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person.
If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller
size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
Making a Gauge Swatch
|kfb (increase 1 st) Knit next st without removing it from left needle, then k through back of same st.

Work in K1, p1 Rib for 3/4 in. (2 cm).
Set up Rnd: *Work Rnd 1 of Seed St cable over next 8 sts, (p2, sl 1, kfb) 3 times, p2; rep from * 2 more times – 75 sts at end of rnd.
Next Rnd: *Work Rnd 2 of Seed St cable over next 8 sts, (p2, work Rnd 1 of Sl St Cable over next 3 sts) 3 times, p2; rep from * around.
Continue in patterns as established until piece measures 6 in. (15 cm) from beg.
Next Rnd: Work as established over 8 sts, k2tog, turn; work the following sts onto one needle for heel flap; p across same 9 sts just worked, remove beg of rnd marker, p27. Place rem 38 sts onto a holder for top of foot (instep).
Note: Heel Flap is worked back and forth in rows over the rem 36 sts only.
Row 1: *Sl 1, k1; rep from * across.
Row 2: Sl 1, p across.
Rep Rows 1 and 2 until heel flap measures 2 1/4 in. (5.5 cm), end with a Row 2.

Row 13: Sl 1, k18, ssk, k1, turn.
Row 14: Sl 1, p19, p2tog, p1, turn – 22 sts at end of row.
Next Rnd: K across heel sts, with same needle, pick up and k16 sts along side of heel flap; with 2nd needle work in patterns as established across 38 top of foot (instep) sts on holder; with 3rd needle, pick up and k16 sts along other side edge of heel flap, with same needle k across 11 heel sts – 92 sts at end of rnd. Place marker for new beg of rnd.
Note: Established cable patterns are continued only over the 38 top of foot sts. The remaining sts are worked in St st (k every rnd).
Rnd 1: K across sts on first needle; on 2nd needle, work in patterns as established over instep sts; on 3rd needle, k to end.
Rnd 2: K to last 3 sts on first needle, k2tog, k1; on 2nd needle, work in patterns as established across instep sts; on 3rd needle k1, ssk, k to end.
Rep Rnds 1 and 2 until 66 sts rem.
Keeping 38 instep sts in patterns as established, rem sts in St st worked in the rnd, work until foot measures about 7 1/2 in. (19 cm) or 2 in. (5 cm) less than desired total foot length.

Insert needle as if to purl into first stitch on front piece. Insert needle as if to knit into first stitch on back piece. Then follow steps 1-4 as outlined below.
1) Insert needle as if to knit through first st on front needle and let the st drop from needle.
2) Insert needle into 2nd st on front needle as if to purl and pull the yarn through, leaving st on needle.
3) Insert needle into first st on back needle as if to purl and let st drop from needle.
4) Insert needle as if to knit through 2nd st on back needle and pull the yarn through, leaving st on needle.
Rep steps 1-4 until all sts are gone. When finished, adjust tension as necessary. Weave in ends.
