GAUGE:
9 sts + 12 rows = 4 in. (10 cm) in St st (k on RS, p on WS) with A. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
STITCH EXPLANATION:

SCARF
With A, cast on 16 sts. Row 1: Work in St st, following Row 1 of Stripe Sequence. Continue in St st and following Stripe Sequence until piece measures 12 in. (30.5 cm) from beg, ending with a WS row. Next Row (RS): Change to C, work Row 1 of Cable Pattern. Continue in Cable Pattern until piece measures 36 in. (91.5 cm) from beg, ending with Row 2 or 8. Next Row (RS): Change to B, work Row 1 of Basket Weave. Continue in Basket Weave until piece measures 72 in. (183 cm) from beg, ending with a Row 6 or 12.
Bind off.
