GAUGE:

14 sts + 7 rows = 4 in. (10 cm) in pattern. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Classic Coverlet Reviewed by Gretchen W. Cooke on 2009-07-22 ****
I was searching for a warm afghan pattern for a grandchild to be born in Connecticut in November and chose this one based on the picture. I should have read the caption more closely. This indeed turned out to be more lacy than I expected, but it is very pretty. It was fairly easy to make after I mastered the stitches. I tend to crochet tightly and usually have to increase the hook one size to maintain gauge; on this I used a hook two sizes up. The pattern is quite easy to follow, and the yarn allowance holds for Babysoft prints as well as solids.
