Working back and forth in rows, as if working on straight needles, work in St st (k on RS, p on WS) for 5 rows.
Next Row (WS): Knit for turning ridge.
With B, beg with a RS row, work in St st for 5 more rows.
Change to A and work in St st for 3 rows.
Change to B and continue in St st, bind off 4 (4, 5, 5) sts at beg of next 2 rows, then bind off 2 sts at beg of next row.
Change to A and bind off 2 sts at beg of next row.
Slip rem 42 (46, 50, 54) sts to a holder.
BODY
With longer circular needle and B, cast on 162 (170, 180, 188) sts. Join, being careful not to twist sts. Place marker for beg of rnd.
With B, knit 5 rnds.
Purl 1 rnd for turning ridge.
Knit 5 rnds.
Change to A, and beg Stripe Sequence.

Work even in St st and Stripe Sequence until piece measures 14 1/2 in. (37 cm) from turning ridge, end with 3rd row of B in Stripe Sequence.
Shape Armhole
Next Rnd: With A, k to 3 (3, 4, 4) sts before marker, bind off next 6 (6, 7, 7) sts removing marker, k to last 3 (3, 4, 4) sts, bind off last 3 (3, 4, 4) sts, remove beg of rnd marker, bind off first 3 sts – 142 (150, 158, 166) sts. Cut yarn.
Next Rnd (Join Sleeve): With RS of Sleeve facing and continuing in Stripe Sequence, join A at last st of last rnd of Body, k42 (46, 50, 54) Sleeve sts from holder, place marker for back, k around to bound-off sts, place marker for Sleeve, k42 (46, 50, 54) Sleeve sts from second holder, place marker for front, k to end of rnd, place marker for beg of rnd – 226 (242, 258, 274) sts.
Next Rnd: Knit.
Next (Dec) Rnd: With B, *k2tog, k to 3 sts before next marker, ssk, k1, sl marker; rep from * 3 more times – 218 (234, 250, 266) sts.
Continue in St st and Stripe Sequence, AT THE SAME TIME, rep Dec Rnd every 3rd rnd 14 (16, 18, 20) more times – 106 sts. Change to smaller circular needle when sts have been sufficiently decreased.
Next Rnd: K to last 28 sts, bind off 14 sts for front neck, k to end of rnd – 92 sts.
Cut yarn.
Shape Front Neck
With RS facing and continuing in Stripe Sequence, rejoin yarn to right neck edge (following bound-off sts). Working back and forth in rows, bind off 2 sts at beg of next 6 rows – 80 sts.
Neckband
Next Row (RS): With B, work in K1, p1 Rib across to bound-off sts, pick up and k 22 sts evenly spaced across front neck edge – 102 sts.
Join to beg working in the rnd, being careful not to twist. Place marker for beg of rnd. With B, work 1 rnd in K1, p1 Rib.
With A, work 1 rnd in K1, p1 Rib. With B, work 2 rnds in K1, p1 Rib.
Rep last 3 rnds once more. Bind off in rib.
FINISHING
Fold hems of Sleeves and Body to WS along turning ridge and sew in place.
Sew underarm seams. Weave in ends. |
