Shimmer Lace Top

GAUGE:

24 sts + 32 rows = 4 in. (10 cm) in Lacy Feathers pattern with larger straight needles. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Making a Gauge Swatch

STITCH EXPLANATION:

M1 (make 1): An increase made by lifting the horizontal thread lying between the needles and placing it onto the left needle. Knit this new stitch through the back loop - 1 st increased.
M2 (make 2): A double increase made by lifting the horizontal thread lying between the needles and placing it onto the left needle. Knit into the front and back of this new stitch - 2 sts increased.
ssk (slip, slip, knit) Slip next 2 sts as if to knit, one at a time, to right needle; insert left needle into fronts of these 2 sts and knit them tog - 1 st decreased.

PATTERN STITCHES
Lacy Feathers (multiple of 12 sts + 2)
Row 1 (RS):
K1, *yo, k2tog, ssk, k2, (yo, k1) twice, k1, k2tog, k1; rep from * across to last st, k1.

Rep Rnd 2 for Twisted K1, p1 Rib.

NOTES:

1. Top is made from six pieces: Skirt Front, Skirt Back, Right Front, Right Back, Left Front, and Left Back. The front and back of the Top are indentical.
2. The Left and Right Front are sewn to the upper shaped edges of the Skirt Front, to make the front of the Top. The Left and Right Back are sewn to the upper shaped edges of the Skirt Back, to make the back of the Top.
3. After the side seams of front and back are sewn, the neckband is worked. In the first rnd of the neckband, sts are cast on to make the shoulder straps.

SKIRT FRONT
With larger straight needles cast on 100 (112, 124) sts.
Row 1 (WS): Purl.
Row 2 (RS): K1, work Row 1 of Lacy Feathers pattern to last st, k1.
Keeping first and last st in Garter st (k every row), continue in Lacy Feathers pattern as established until piece measures 5 in. (12.5 cm) from beg. Note: It does not matter which row of the Lacy Feathers pattern you end with.
Change to smaller straight needles.
Keeping first and last st in Garter st, continue in Lacy Feathers pattern as established until piece measures 7 1/2 in. (19 cm) from beg, end with Row 4 of Lacy Feathers pattern.
Note: End with Row 4 of Lacy Feathers pattern means that the last row you work should be Row 4 of Lacy Feathers pattern, and the next row that you are ready to work will be Row 1 of Lacy Feathers pattern.
Shape Upper Skirt
Continue in Lacy Feathers pattern as established, bind off 3 sts at beg of next 30 (34, 38) rows - 10 sts when all bind offs have been completed.
