GAUGE:

12 sc = 4 in. (10 cm). When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Coffeehouse Cap Reviewed by linda on 2014-01-05 *****
Great pattern; I agree that you need to check gauge. I have made enough caps that I always know how many inches across it needs to be at a certain point so I don't find out before it's too late that it is too big or small. Might want to keep record of the size after so many rounds so you know for future caps. I didn't realize what the difference was between a beanie & coffeehouse cap but I see how these sit different on the head than beanies; I really like the looks of these when worn. The kids love having matching caps for their sweatshirts so I included 2 photos one with the matching sweatshirt.
