GAUGE:

16 sts + 22 rows = 4 in. (10 cm) in St st (k on RS, p on WS).

BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

STITCH EXPLANATION:

Seed Stitch (over odd number of sts)
Row 1 (RS) K1, *p1, k1; rep from * to end.
Rep Row 1 for Seed St.

NOTES:

1) To follow Chart, work RS rows from right to left and WS rows from left to right.
2) When working Charts, use a separate ball of yarn for each color.
3) Pick up new color from under old to twist yarns and prevent holes.

SCARF
With A, cast on 75 sts.
Work in Seed St for 8 rows.
Row 1 (RS): With A, work in Seed St over first 5 sts, following Row 1 of Chart 1, k across to last 5 sts, with A, work in Seed St to end.
Row 2: With A, work in Seed St over first 5 sts, following Row 2 of Chart 1, p across to last 5 sts, with A, work in Seed St to end.
Continue as established, working first and last 5 sts with A in Seed St, remaining sts in St st (k on RS, p on WS), following Chart 1. Work until Row 169 of Chart 1 has been completed.
Rows 170-228: Continue with A only, keeping first and last 5 sts in Seed St as established, rem sts in St st..
Next Row (RS): With A, work in Seed St over first 5 sts, following Row 1 of Chart 2, k across to last 5 sts, with A, work in Seed St to end.
Next Row (WS): With A, work in Seed St over first 5 sts, following Row 2 of Chart 2, p across to last 5 sts, with A, work in Seed St to end.
Continue as established, working first and last 5 sts with A in Seed St, remaining sts in St st, and following Chart 2. Work until Row 155 of Chart 2 has been completed.
When Chart 2 is complete, work in Seed St with A only for 8 rows. Bind off.

FINISHING
Weave in ends.
