GAUGE:
17 sts + 24 rows = 4 in. (10 cm) in St st (k on RS, p on WS). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

What a lovely pattern this is and I had fun making it for our new TWIN granddaughters! I needed to use a #4 needle to get the correct gauge. I decided to give each baby a slightly different rendition, so I reversed the stripes and used spotted buttons on one and striped buttons on the other. I enjoyed working with the Nature's Choice Organic Cotton yarn. Now I have to make one in "boy" colors for our 2 1/2 year old grandson!
