Plush Cap

Lion Brand® Homespun® - Fun Fur®

8 sts + 14 rows = 4 in. (10 cm) in Garter st (k every row) with 1 strand each of A and B held tog. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Making a Gauge Swatch

Beg at lower edge with 1 strand each of A and B held tog, cast on 44 sts.
Knit 6 rows. Cut B and continue with A only.
Knit 8 rows.
Work in St st (k on RS, p on WS) until piece measures 6 in. (15 cm) from beg, end with a WS row.
Shape Crown
Row 1: (K4, k2tog, k3, k2tog) 4 times – 36 sts.
Work even in St st for 3 rows.
Next Row: (K2, k2tog, k3, k2tog) 4 times – 28 sts.
Purl 1 row.
Next Row: (K2tog) across – 14 sts.
Purl 1 row.
Next Row: (K2tog) across – 7 sts.
Cut yarn, leaving a long tail. Weave tail through rem sts and pull to gather. Sew seam.

Place markers on side of Cap, 2 in. (5 cm) and 4 1/2 in. (11.5 cm) from seam.
With RS facing and 1 strand each of A and B held tog, pick up and k12 sts between markers.
Knit 11 rows.
Next Row: (K2tog) twice, k4, (k2tog) twice – 8 sts.
Knit 1 row.
Next Row: K2tog, k4, k2tog – 6 sts.
Knit 1 row.
Next Row: (K2tog) 3 times – 3 sts.
Slip rem 3 sts onto crochet hook, yarn over and draw through all 3 sts. Cut B.
With crochet hook and A only, chain 30. Fasten off.
Repeat for second Earflap.

With RS facing and 1 strand each of A and B held tog, pick up and k16 sts between the 2 Earflaps.
Knit 11 rows. Bind off.

Fold Brim up to RS and tack to front of Cap.

TASSELS (make 2)
Wrap B around 3 1/2 in. (9 cm) cardboard 20 times. Cut a 6 in. (15 cm) length of B and thread onto large-eyed blunt needle. Insert needle under all strands at upper edge of cardboard. Pull tightly and knot securely near strands. Cut yarn loops at lower edge of cardboard. Cut a 6 in. (15 cm) length of B and wrap tightly around loops 1 in. (2.5 cm) below top knot to form Tassel neck. Knot securely; thread ends onto needle and weave ends to center of Tassel.
Trim Tassel ends evenly.
Sew a Tassel to end of each tie.
Weave in ends.
