Lion Brand® Cotton-Ease® (new)

GAUGE:

18 sts + 38 rows = 4 in. (10 cm) in Garter st (k every row). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

BACK
Cast on 63 (75, 81) sts. Knit 4 rows. Beg with a knit row, work in St st (k on RS, p on WS) until piece measures 8 (9, 10) in. (20.5 (23, 25.5) cm) from beg, end with a WS row.
Shape Yoke
Next Row: *K1, k2tog; repeat from * to end of row – 42 (50, 54) sts.
Continue in Garter st (k every row) until yoke measures 1 1/2 (1 3/4, 2) in. (4 (4.5, 5) cm).
Shape Armhole
Bind off 4 (6, 6) sts at beg of next two rows – 34 (38, 42) sts. Decrease 1 st at each end of every RS row 4 (5, 5) times – 26 (28, 32) sts. Work even until yoke measures 3 (3 1/2, 4) in. (7.5 (9, 10) cm).
Shape Neck
Next Row (RS): K6 and slip to a holder, bind off 14 (16, 20) sts, knit to end.
Work in Garter st on 6 sts for 4 1/2 in. (11.5 cm) for tie. Bind off.
Slip 6 sts from holder to back to needle and join yarn. Work in Garter st for 4 1/2 in. (11.5 cm) for second tie. Bind off.

FRONT
Make same as Back.

FINISHING
Sew side seams. Weave in ends.

Child's Beach Top Reviewed by teneil cooper on 2009-09-18 *****
Love this pattern!!! I didn't use the recomended wool but i did use a peach/pink colour in 8ply and made a size 5 for my daughter and a matching one for her beloved Teddy. I found this pattern also under "sun top" and they showed it with little flowers all over it, so i did this also.

I am now making one in a aqua colour size 3 for my youngest daughter and a matching one for her teddy!

I do suggest how ever that you make they ties longer or it will be very hard to tie it at the top.

:)
