Child's Beach Top
Lion Brand® Cotton-Ease®
GAUGE: 18 sts + 38 rows = 4 in. (10 cm) in Garter st (k every row). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Children grow so fast, so this is the perfect top that will last a little longer! I've made 6 of these, so far, and gotten raves about all of them. You can let yourself go wild with various yarn & color combinations. The only thing I did different, after the first one, was to make the ties as i-cord, and longer.
I will add to my prior comment that I've just finished my 10th version of this! I also am doing them on circular needles - so much easier & faster - cuz I really really hate sewing seams. The i-cord ties are the only way to go with this, so it'll "grow with her", but I did do one with buttoned straps. The most popular ones were with bottom/skirt in burnt orange & the top part done two-tone (every other stitch) burnt orange-ish & white. Naturally, my granddaughter wants to be either a cheerleader or the first female pitcher for the baseball team. :) Go UT Longhorns - Hook 'em!!
