GAUGE:

7 dc + 4 rows = 4 in. (10 cm) in Block pattern.
7 1/2 sc + 8 rows = 4 in. (10 cm). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Endearing Girl's Poncho Reviewed by Frances on 2009-10-31 *****
I read reviews that some we're having problems with the head opening, so I chained 10 more sc for a size 10-12 & it turned out beautifully. Love it & so does my grand daughter, ;o)
