Festive Santa

Exact gauge is not essential to this project.

STITCH EXPLANATION:

sc2tog (sc decrease) Insert hook into st and draw up a loop. Insert hook into next st and draw up a loop. Yarn over, draw through all 3 loops on hook.

NOTES:

1. Work in continuous rnds; do not join or turn unless otherwise instructed.
2. C and D are worked with 2 strands held tog. Wind C and D into 2 balls before beg.

SANTA
HEAD AND BODY
Beg at top of head, with A, ch 2.
Rnd 1: Work 6 sc in first ch. Place marker in first st for beg of rnd; move marker up as each rnd is completed.
Rnd 2: Work 2 st in each sc around – 12 sts.
Rnd 3: *2 sc in next st, sc in next st, rep from * around - 18 sts.
Rnds 4-8: Sc in each st around. Following package directions, attach safety eyes. Beg stuffing piece, continuing to stuff as work progresses.
Rnd 9: *Sc2tog, sc in next st, rep from * around – 12 sts.
Rnd 10: Sc in each sc around. Change to B.
Rnd 11: *2 sc in next st, sc in next st, rep from * around - 18 sts.
Rnd 12: *2 sc in next st, sc in each of next 2 sts, rep from * around – 24 sts.
Rnds 13-18: Sc in each sc around. Change to 2 strands of C.
Rnds 19-20: Sc in each sc around. Change to B.
Rnd 21: *Sc2tog, sc in each of next 2 sts, rep from * around – 18 sts.
Rnd 22: *Sc2tog, sc in next st, rep from * around – 12 sts.
Rnd 23: *Sc2tog * around – 6 sts. Fasten off.

ARMS (make 2)
With A, ch 2.
Rnd 1: Work 4 sc in first ch. Place marker in first st for beg of rnd; move marker up as each rnd is completed.
Rnd 2: Work 2 sc in each st around – 8 sts. Change to B.
Rnds 3-7: Sc in each st around, stuffing as work progresses. Fasten off.

LEGS (make 2)
With 2 strands of C held tog, ch 2.
Rnd 1: Work 8 sc in first ch.
Rnds 2-3: Sc in each st around, stuffing as work progresses. Fasten off.

HAT
With B, ch 2.
Rnd 1: Work 4 sc in first ch. Place marker in first st for beg of rnd; move marker up as each rnd is completed.
Rnd 2 and all even rnds: Sc in each st around.
Rnd 3: *2 sc in next st, sc in next st, rep from * around - 6 sts.
Rnd 5: *2 sc in next st, sc in each of next 2 sts, rep from * around - 8 sts.
Rnd 7: *2 sc in next st, sc in each of next 3 sts, rep from * around - 10 sts.
Rnd 9: *2 sc in next st, sc in each of next 4 sts, rep from * around - 12 sts.
Rnd 11: *2 sc in next st, sc in each of next 5 sts, rep from * around - 14 sts.
Rnd 13: *2 sc in next st, sc in each of next 6 sts, rep from * around - 16 sts.
Rnd 15: *2 sc in next st, sc in each of next 7 sts, rep from * around - 18 sts.
Rnd 17: *2 sc in next st, sc in each of next 8 sts, rep from * around - 20 sts. Change to 2 strands of D.
Rnd 18: Sc in each st around. Fasten off.

POMPOM
With 2 strands of D held tog, ch2.
Rnd 1: Work 6 sc in first ch.
Rnd 2: 2 sc in each st around – 12 sts.
Rnd 3: (Sc2tog) around. Fasten off.

MUSTACHE
With 2 strands of D held tog, ch 6.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, hdc in next ch, sl st in next ch, hdc in next ch, sc in last ch. Fasten off.

BEARD
With 2 strands of D held tog, ch 11.
Row 1: Sc in the 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across – 10 sts.
Row 2: Ch 1, turn. Sc2tog, sc in each of next 8 sts.- 9 sts.
Row 3: Ch 1, turn. Sc2tog, sc in each of next 7 sts.- 8 sts.
Row 4: Ch 1, turn. Sc2tog, sc in each of next 6 sts.- 7 sts.
Row 5: Ch 1, turn. Sc2tog, sc in each of next 5 sts.- 6 sts.
Row 6: Ch 1, turn. Sc2tog, sc in each of next 4 sts.- 5 sts.
Row 7: Ch 1, turn. Sc2tog, sc in each of next 3 sts.- 4 sts.
Row 8: Ch 1, turn. Sc2tog, sc in each of next 2 sts.- 3 sts.
Row 9: Ch 1, turn. Sc2tog, sc in each of next 1 sts.- 2 sts.
Row 10: Ch 1, turn. Sc2tog. Fasten off.

FINISHING
Sew Arms and Legs to body. Sew Pompom to Hat, sew Hat to head. Sew Moustache and Beard to face. Knot a length of D to top of Hat for hanging loop. Weave in ends.
