GAUGE: 16 stitches + 22 rows = 4 in. (10 cm) in Garter stitch (knit every row). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

HAT
Cast on 80 stitches.
Work in Garter stitch (knit every row) until piece measures about 12 in. (30.5 cm) from cast-on edge. Bind off, leaving a 12 in. (30.5 cm) tail.
FINISHING
Sew side seam to form a tube. Weave tail through stitches of bind-off edge and pull tight to gather top of Hat, knot securely.
Pompom
Follow Pompom Maker package instructions to make a pompom. Secure pompom to top of Hat.
Weave in ends.
