GAUGE:

13 stitches = 4 in. (10 cm) in Garter stitch (knit every row) with 2 strands held together. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Making a Gauge Swatch

SCARF
With 1 strand each of A and B held together, cast on 26 stitches. Work in Garter stitch (knit every row) until piece measures about 65 in. (165 cm) from beginning. Bind off.

FINISHING
Weave in ends.
Fringe
For each Fringe cut 2 lengths of each color, 22 in. (56 cm) long. Fold strands in half, pull fold through end of Scarf. Pull strands through fold and tighten. Make 8 Fringe along each end of Scarf.

Garter Tweed Scarf Reviewed by Jessica B. on 2010-11-16 *****
This is the perfect starter scarf. I've made a number of items, but I always mess up and end up with more stitches than I began with. Working with 2 yarns at once made me much more aware of when I was about to mess up my stitches!
