Felted Braided Seascape Scarf

GAUGE: 16 sts + 22 rows = 4 in. (10 cm) in Stockinette stitch (knit on right side, purl on wrong side) before felting BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

SCARF
STRIPS (make 1 with A, 1 with B, and 1 with C)
Cast on 50 stitches.
Work in Stockinette Stitch (knit on right side, purl on wrong side) until piece measures about 55 in. (140 cm).
Bind off.
I-Cords (make 1 with A, 1 with B, and 1 with C)
Cast on 4 stitches and knit them. *At end of row slip stitches back onto left needle to work next row, pulling yarn tightly across back of work. Repeat from * until piece measures about 42 in. (106.5 cm). Place 3 Strips on top of one another and sew together at one end. Braid Strips, and then sew together at other end.
FINISHING
Felting
Wash pieces by machine on a hot wash/cold rinse cycle with detergent and several pieces of clothing to agitate. To felt additionally, dry by machine on a regular setting until almost dry. Remove from dryer and pull into shape.
Sew unknotted end of cord braid to one end of Scarf.
Weave in ends.
