GAUGE:

8 sts + 8 rows = 4 in. (10 cm) in hdc. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

SHAWL

Rep Row 4 until Shawl measures 35 in. (89 cm) from beginning. Fasten off.

Painted Shawl Reviewed by Kacie Shoemaker on 2012-03-28 *****
I made this pattern almost a year ago for a friend of mine. We both participate in Renaissance Fairs and she had given me some of her old costumes. This pattern was perfect for the Ren Fairs. I have since made one for myself and will be making a few more for other guild members. The pattern worked up easily and I had no problems with the directions. Instead of focusing on the gauge and measuring the shawls, I added rows until it felt right to wear. I also added a button to the shawl to help keep it in place.
