GAUGE:

23 sts = 4 in. (10 cm) in St st (k on RS, p on WS) with 2 strands of yarn held together. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

STITCH EXPLANATION:

sk2p Slip 1 as if to knit, knit 2 together, pass slipped stitch over—2 sts decreased. PATTERN STITCH Lace Stitch (multiple of 6 sts + 2) Rows 1 and 3 (WS): Purl. Row 2: K1, *k3, yo, sk2p, yo; rep from * to last st, k1. Row 4: K1, *yo, sk2p, yo, k3; rep from * to last st, k1. Rep Rows 1-4 for Lace st.

SCARF
With 2 strands of yarn held together, cast on 32 sts.
St st Section: Beginning with a WS row, work in St st (k on RS, p on WS) for 3 in. (7.5 cm), end with a RS row.
Lace Section: Change to Lace st and work for 3 in. (7.5 cm), end with Row 4 (RS).
Rep St st and Lace Sections for a total of 10 times, then rep St st Section once more. Bind off.

FINISHING
Weave in ends.
