GAUGE:

Blocks 1 and 3 = 8 x 16 in. (20 x 40.5 cm).
Blocks 2 and 4 = 16 x 8 in. (40.5 x 20 cm). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

NOTES:

For ease in assembly, label each Block as you finish.

AFGHAN
Block 1 (make 9 – 5 with A, 4 with B)
Ch 23.
Row 1: Dc in 4th ch from hook and in each ch across – 20 sts.
Row 2: Ch 3, turn. Dc in each st across.
Rep Row 2 until Block measures about 16 in. (40.5 cm) from beg.
Fasten off.

Block 2 (make 7 – 3 with A, 4 with B)
Ch 43.
Row 1: Dc in 4th ch from hook and in each ch across – 40 sts.
Row 2: Ch 3, turn. Dc in each st across.
Rep Row 2 until Block measures about 8 in. (20 cm) from beg.
Fasten off.

Block 3 (make 3 with C)
Ch 23.
Row 1: Dc in 4th ch from hook and in each ch across – 20 sts.
Row 2: Ch 1, turn. Sc in each st across.
Row 3: Ch 3, turn. Dc in each st across.
Row 4: Ch 1, turn. Sc in each st across.
