GAUGE:

15 sts and 16 rows = 4 in. (10 cm) over pattern. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Lily Dish Mats Reviewed by susan wahlmann on 2011-09-02 ***
I love this pattern - I made two of them out of cotton yarn. The texture is beautiful and they are thick. I wish Lion Brand would remove oven pad from the list of uses, however - I received a really nasty 2nd degree burn on my thumb using one to remove cookies from the oven. As a solution I thought about sewing two together to increase heat resitance, but they're too thick. I held two together to see and with my small hands they were too bulky to grip.
