GAUGE: 20 sts + 42 rows = 4 in. (10 cm) in Garter st (k every row). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

| Isabel Cardigan And Hat Reviewed by Corinne Fowler on 2011-12-26 |

| I've made this hat three times, so obviously I do like it, but every time it seems a little loose. I've tried decreasing the cast on stitches and also knitting tighter, but I think an easy remedy, no matter what size you choose, is to just go down a needle size for the first few rows. I'm going to try this for the next one I make. Otherwise, really easy pattern to make and finish.
