Green Living Tote

Lion Brand® Recycled Cotton

GAUGE:

16 sts = 4 in. (10 cm) in Garter st (k every row), with 2 strands of yarn held together. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

STITCH EXPLANATION:

ssk (slip, slip, knit)- slip next 2 sts as if to knit, one at a time to right needle, insert left needle into fronts of these 2 sts and knit them together.

Green Living Tote Reviewed by Maggie Pope on 2009-11-11 ***
I made my first tote and find it great for using up stashes of cotton Ihave had around.I have a problem with the pattern for the third row (Ssk,yo)repeat. While kitting away and not counting the stitches on the knit rows I realized I was losing a stitch every third row. The pattern should read (yo,Ssk rep). I managed to finish it but ended up 10 sitiches short, 5 on each side. It made the dec.a bit difficult.
I've started my second one and the pattern is working with the change. I also find it easier to pickup the stitches around the edge with a crochet hook.Just pull yarn through and put on knitting needle.
