GAUGE:
18 sts = 4 in. [10 cm] in St st (k every rnd) with larger needles. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Toasty Knitted Mittens Reviewed by Shannon Stafford on 2012-03-14
Eager to try more than a scarf or hat, this pattern was a perfect new challenge. I consider myself a new intermediate. I made mine with a 3 inch ribbing and then about 4 inches before the thumb starts...good and long!very pleased and I have already picked out my next color choice. Would love to see this pattern for a large man and with circular needles if possible.
