15 sts + 32 rows = 4 in. (10 cm) in Garter st (knit every row). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

This is the first sweater I ever attempted and it turned out great... thanks to the easy to understand, excellent written instructions. I was a little scared off by the pocket welts and the picking up and knitting stitches... all new techniques for me when I made this sweater. Adorable sweater... great pattern even for a beginner! I used Vanna's Choice yarn... very nice.
