Exact gauge is not essential to this project.

Chain 22. Slip stitch in 2nd chain from hook, half double crochet in next chain, double crochet in each chain to last 2, half double crochet in next chain, slip stitch in last chain.
Working along opposite side of chain, chain 2, slip stitch in next chain, half double crochet in next chain, double crochet in each chain to last 2, half double crochet in next chain, slip stitch in last chain. Fasten off. Wrap a length of yarn around piece about 1 in. (2.5 cm) from one end to make head.

From right side, join yarn with slip stitch to end of body and chain 40. Turn and work 2 single crochet in each of next 10 chains (to create corkscrew effect); single crochet in each remaining chain.
Fasten off.

From right side, join yarn with slip stitch to side of body about 3/4 in. (2 cm) below ‘neck’ and chain 10. Turn, double crochet in 2nd chain from hook, slip stitch in each of next 2 chains (1st toe); *chain 4, double crochet in 2nd chain from hook, slip stitch in each of next 2 chains** (2nd toe); repeat from * to ** for 3rd toe. Fasten off. In same way, make another leg on opposite side of body, and another pair of legs about 2 in. (5 cm) away.

Cut a small strip from felt and notch one end. Glue in place for tongue. Glue on eyes. Weave in ends.

I loved making this! It took less than an hour and was very simple to create. I did follow other's advice in the reviews and did the legs and tail as I went around instead of sewing them on separately. (I did one half of the body, then the tail, then did the other side with legs as I went. Then I had to slip stitch around to do the legs on the first side--maybe next time I can do each leg and the tail as I go). I also crocheted a little red tongue since I didn't have any red felt on hand. He turned out very cute!
