I started out making this following the pattern but I made the flower panel long enough to fit my not so standard width bed. After about a month I grew tired of the back and forth with the double crochet sections. It seemed like I was accomplishing nothing. So I redid the flowers using a size P hook and held 2 strands together. I look at the differences in the size of my finished flowers and compare them to picture on here and I am convinced the picture blanket was made using a large hook.
So my finished project is several rows of the flower panels that I hung up behind my bed. I really like that I can see my wall color behind the afghan. I used a deep purple color and my lighter walls go nicely with it. I concur with the other people who said the open work of this wasn't good with children or animals. While I was working on this I would get caught in it too. That's why I decided to make it for a purely decorative purpose.
