GAUGE:

1 1/2 pattern repeats + 5 rows = 4 in. (10 cm) in established shell pattern. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Bridal Shawl Reviewed by Cass Davis on 2011-11-20 *****
I made this shawl in Jomespun Ocean at the request of a friend who wanted it for a holiday gift. I was afraid that the painterly coloring would over power the pattern and make it hard to see, but my friend insisted. To my surprise, it worked up beautifully. Both the color drifts and the pattern showed up well. I was well pleased with the effort and understand the recipient loved the shawl and wears it often. The pattern takes a few repeats to get used to, but after a bit, you can anticipate the next row. It also worked up faster than I expected it to. Definitely one of my go-to Lion patterns now! I just wish I had taken a picture of it before I let it go.
