GAUGE:
8 sts + 13 rows = 4 in. (10 cm) in Lace Pattern. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
STITCH EXPLANATION:
sk2p- slip 1 st as if to knit, knit 2 sts together, pass slipped stitch over - 2 sts decreased. ssk (slip, slip, knit)- slip next 2 sts as if to knit, one at a time to right needle, insert left needle into fronts of these 2 sts and knit them together.

Winter Lace Afghan Reviewed by Dee Wright on 2009-12-21
I just finished the afghan. It is gorgeous!! As soon as I saw the pattern in the catalog, I knew I wanted to make it. You HAVE to pay close attention to what you are doing while working on this project. But, with the help of the suggestions made here...especially marking off every twelve stitches and keeping count...I didn't have any problems with the pattern. Hint: the 12 stitch marking will not work on row 19. I am so pleased that I almost can't believe I made it with my own two hands.
