Rnd 1: Work 6 sc in first ch. Place marker in first st for beg of rnd; move marker up as each rnd is completed.
Rnd 2: Work 2 sc in each sc around - 12 sc.
Rnd 3: *2 sc in next st, sc in next st, rep from * around - 18 sc.
Rnd 4: *2 sc in next st, sc in each of next 2 sts, rep from * around - 24 sts.
Rnd 5: *2 sc in next st, sc in each of next 3 sts, rep from * around - 30 sts.
Rnd 6: *2 sc in next st, sc in each of next 4 sts, rep from * around - 36 sts.
Rnd 7: *2 sc in next st, sc in each of next 5 sts, rep from * around - 42 sts.
Rnd 8: *2 sc in next st, sc in each of next 6 sts, rep from * around - 48 sts.
Rnd 9: *2 sc in next st, sc in each of next 7 sts, rep from * around- 54 sts.
Rnd 10: *2 sc in next st, sc in each of next 8 sts, rep from * around - 60 sts.

With A, ch 2.
Rep Rnds 1-4 of Body - 24 sc. Fasten off.
BEAK
With B, ch 2.
Rnd 1: Work 4 sc in first ch. Place marker in first st for beg of rnd; move marker up as each rnd is completed.
Rnd 2: *2 sc in next st, sc in next st, rep from * around - 6 sc.
Rnd 3: *2 sc in next st, sc in each of next 2 sts, rep from * around - 8 sts.
Rnd 4: *2 sc in next st, sc in each of next 3 sts, rep from * around - 10 sts.
Fasten off.
FEET (make 2)
With B, ch 8.
Work (sl st, ch 6, sl st, ch 4, sl st) in 5th ch from hook.
Fasten off.
CREST
With C, ch 8.
Sc in 2nd ch from hook, *(hdc, dc, hdc) in next ch, sc in next ch; rep from * to last ch. Fasten off.
FINISHING
Fold body in half to make a semicircle, stuff and sew closed. Sew on black beads for eyes. Stuff beak lightly, flatten and sew to body. Fold wings into semicircles and sew closed. Sew wings to body. Sew on feet and crest. Weave in ends.

I love this pattern! My friend, Ruth, owns and loves chichens, so I decided to make this pattern for her. She knows hat I can crochet, but this just amazed her. This pattern looks a lot harder than it actually is, and the directions are so easy to follow! Thank you Lion Brand!
