Easy Lace Shrug

GAUGE:

16 sts = 4 in. (10 cm) in Shell Lace pattern using larger needles. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

STITCH EXPLANATION:

Seed Stitch
Row 1 (RS): *K1, p1; rep from * across.
Row 2: K the purl sts, p the knit sts as they appear.
Rep Row 2 for Seed St.
Shell Lace (multiple of 11 sts + 1)
Row 1 (WS) and all WS Rows: Purl.
Row 2: K2 tog, *k5, yo, k1, yo, k2, sl 1, k2 tog, psso; rep from * end last repeat ssk.
Row 4: K2 tog, *k4, yo, k3, yo, k1, sl 1, k2 tog, psso; rep from * end last repeat ssk.
Row 6: K2 tog, *k3,yo, k5, yo, sl 1, k2 tog, psso; rep from * end last repeat ssk.
Row 8: K2 tog, *k2, yo, k1, yo,k5, sl 1, k2 tog, psso; rep from * end last repeat ssk.
Row 10: K2 tog, *k1, yo, k3, yo, k4, sl 1, k2 tog, psso; rep from * end last repeat ssk.
Row 12: K2 tog, * yo, k5, yo, k3, sl 1, k2 tog, psso; rep from * end last repeat ssk.
Rep Rows 1-12 for Shell Lace.
K1, p1 Rib (worked over even # of sts)
Row 1: *K1, p1; rep from * to end of row.
Rep Row 1 for K1, p1 Rib.

NOTES:

Circular needle is used to accommodate large number of sts. Work back and forth on circular needle, as if working on straight needles.

BOLERO
With circular needle, cast on 155 sts.
Work in Seed st for 2 in. (5 cm), end with a RS row.
Beg with Row 1, work Rows 1-12 of Shell Lace pattern 7 times.
Work in Seed st for 2 in. (5 cm). Bind off.

FINISHING
Cuffs
From RS, with smaller needles, pick up and k 46 sts along one end of Bolero. Work in k1, p1 Rib for 4 1/2 in. (11.5 cm). Bind off in rib. Work cuff on opposite end of Bolero in same way.
Seam cuff and about 6 1/2 in. (16.5 cm) of cast-on and bound-off edges at each end of Bolero for sleeves.
Weave in ends.

I love this pattern, I had no troubles at all. Even when a used a different yarn. I have one in cream and one in black. People are always asking me where I purchased the shrug and it is so funny when I tell them I knitted it myself. I had several people order these from me, so I have made a few. Never had to change the directions, and all who purchased them were very happy with the fit.
