STYROFOAM® shapes as follows:
5 in. (12.5 cm) square, 2 1/2 (6.5 cm) thick
8 and 11 1/2 in. (20.5 and 29.5 cm) squares, both 4 in. (10 cm) thick
Clover Pom-Pom maker, extra small
Craft wire
CAKE
Lower Layer
With B, cast on 4 stitches. Knit every row until strip measures same as outside edge of largest foam square.
Apply craft glue lightly to sides of square, then wrap A around all sides. In same manner, cover about 2 in. (5 cm) border on top of foam square with A.
Glue B strip around lower edge of square.
With C and Pom-Pom maker, make pompoms. Glue pompoms around lower edge of square over B strip.
Middle Layer
Using 8 in. (50.5 cm) foam square, make same as lower layer.
Glue middle layer to center of lower layer.
Top Layer
Cover sides of smallest foam square in same manner as lower layer. Cover entire top of square with A. Glue top layer to center of middle layer.
Embellishments
Note: For all yarn wrapped pieces, thread yarn ends into large eyed blunt needle and weave under wraps to secure. Leaves
Cut 18 in. (46 cm) lengths of craft wire. Bend ends into a leaf shape. Wrap leaf shapes with D or E as desired. Trim remaining wire, extending from leaf, to 4-6 in. (10-15 cm) and wrap with F for stem. Leave 2-3 leaf stems unwrapped.
Buds
Cut 4-6 in. (10-15 cm) lengths of craft wire. Wrap length with F for stem, wrap about 1 in. (2.5 cm) at end of wire with A for bud.
Roses
Cut a 40 in. (101.5 cm) length of wire. Bend in half and twist ends together to make a very elongated oval shape. Wrap wire form with B until completely covered. Gently roll covered wire into a spiral to make rose. Make 5 roses in this manner, make one small rose by beginning with a 20 in. (51 cm) length of wire.
FINISHING
Glue 3 large roses to top center of cake. Glue small rose to center of 3 rose group. Glue remaining roses to sides of cake as desired. Insert wire stems of leaves and buds into cake.
