Cascading Leaves Throw

Lion Brand® Jiffy®

GAUGE:

1 Square = 7 1/4 x 7 1/4 in. (18.5 x 18.5 cm). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

STITCH EXPLANATION:

M1 (make 1) An increase worked by lifting horizontal thread lying between needles and placing it onto left needle. Knit this new stitch through the back loop.

SQUARE (make 48)
Beginning in one corner, with straight needles, cast on 1 st.
Row 1 (RS): Work (k1, yo, k 1) in front lp of the 1 st - 3 sts at the end of this row.
Row 2: P3.
Row 3: P1, M1, k1, M1, p1 - 5 sts at the end of this row.
Row 4: K1, M1, p2, (p in front lp, then k in back lp) of next st, k1 - 7 sts at the end of this row.
Row 5: P2, (k1, yo) twice, k1, p2 - 9 sts at the end of this row.
Row 6: K1, M1, k1, p5, k1, M1, k1 - 11 sts at the end of this row.
Row 7: P3, k2, yo, k1, yo, k2, p3 - 13 sts at the end of this row.
Row 8: K1, M1, k2, p7, k2, M1, k1 - 15 sts at the end of this row.

Fasten off.

BLOCK (make 12)
With cast-on corners touching at center of Block, sew 4 Squares tog to form a 14 1/2 x 14 1/2 in. (37 x 37 cm) Block (leaves radiate from center out to corners of Block).

FINISHING
Sew Blocks tog to form a rectangle, 3 blocks by 4 blocks.
Border
From RS with circular needle, pick up and k180 sts (30 sts across each Square) across one short edge of rectangle.
Next (Inc) Row: K1, M1, knit across to last 2 sts, M1, k1 - 182 sts at end of this row.
Rep last row 15 more times - 212 sts when all incs complete.
Bind off.
Rep on other short edge. Work in same way, picking up 240 sts, along each long edge. Sew edges of border tog.
Weave in ends.
