GAUGE: 7 sts = 4 in. (10 cm) over pattern BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
STITCH EXPLANATION: | sc2tog (sc dec) Insert hook into st and draw up a loop. Insert hook into next st and draw up a loop. Yarn over, draw through all 3 loops on hook. |

| i love this hat, it is really a perfect pattern if you want the over sized beret look that is so hot now, it is very much a statement maker. you can make smaller by omitting the last increase row , where you go from 56-64 stitches. i dont recommend substituting yarn, it needs the firmness of the this yarn to give it form, i added flower pattern 60147 to mine.also used a light color so i could see and count stitches easily. My border rib i did in sc all around and added a crochet picot on final round.
