An increase worked as follows:
1. Knit the next st through the front loop, but do not remove the st from your left hand needle.
2. Knit the same st once more, this time inserting your needle through the back loop of the st. You will have created 2 loops (sts) on your right hand needle.
3. Drop the st from your left hand needle – you have increased 1 st!

M1 (make 1)An increase worked by lifting the horizontal thread lying between the needles and placing it onto left needle. Knit this new stitch through the back loop. kfb (knit into front and then back) An increase worked as follows: 1. PATTERN STITCHES Mock Cable Row 1: Knit. Row 2: Purl. Row 3 : P2, *k in back loop of 2nd st on LH needle, then k in front loop of 1st st on LH needle, sl both sts from needle together, k in front loop of 2nd st on LH needle, then k in front loop of 1st st on LH needle, sl both sts from needle together, p2, rep from * across. Row 4: K2, *p4, k2, rep from * across. Row 5: Knit. Row 6: Purl. Rep Rows 1-6 for Mock Cable pattern.

FINISHING Wrap piece around foam ball and sew seam, drawing in sts of bound-off and cast-on edges. Sew bound off end of cord to top of Ornament. Weave in ends.

In answer to the person who mentioned how large this is, it could be made smaller by only going to 48 sts and then deleting at least one of the mock cables. (I haven't tried this yet, but it makes sense).
Or, it could be stuffed with regular stuffing rather than the foam ball. This would make it easier to squeeze out of shape but it would be cheaper.
