Wee Backpack
Lion Brand® Wool-Ease® Thick & Quick®
GAUGE:
9 sc + 8 rnds = 4 in. (10 cm). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

I too had to add a bunch of rows to make it long enough. And for those of you, like I, who had difficulty with the straps (it took me quite a while to figure it out), try making the slip stitch in the front or back loop of the stitch only, then follow around in a spiral. I only went through the front loop of the stitch and just went around and around and it came out looking just right. Overall it's a pretty easy pattern.
