GAUGE:

13 sts + 8 1/2 rows = 4 in. (10 cm) in pattern stitch. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Ocean Waves Baby Afghan Reviewed by Jennifer G on 2014-03-25 ****
This blanket worked up pretty quickly. For once I stuck to the size the pattern was written for and I'm very happy with the final product! The only part I had difficulty with was the final row of the blanket (not the border) I'm not sure if I was reading the pattern wrong or if it was written wrong. It seemed like that last row was going to end up being fewer stitches and therefore pulling it in to an odd final shape. I did work it out - sometimes you just have to try a few different things to make it work! The border worked up quick as well. Across the top and bottom is pretty straight forward. When you are doing the sides be sure to evenly space your stitches and count how many you do on each side to make sure it's even.
