GAUGE: 13 sts + 8 1/2 rows = 4 in. (10 cm) in pattern stitch. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

NOTES: To change color, work last stitch to last yarn over. Yarn over with new color and draw through all loops on hook to complete stitch.

Row 1 (RS): Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across; change to B in last st - 79 sts.
Row 2: Ch 1, turn, sc in first sc, *sk next 2 sc, 5 dc in next sc (shell made), sk next 2 sc, sc in next sc; rep from * across; change to C in last st - 13 shells.
Row 3: Ch 3 (counts as first dc), turn, work 2 more dc in first st, sk next 2 dc, sc in next dc, sk next 2 dc, *shell in next sc, sk next 2 dc, sc in next dc, sk next 2 dc; rep from * to last sc, 3 dc in last sc; change to A in last st.
Row 4: Ch 1, turn, sc in first dc, *sk next 2 dc, shell in next sc, sk next 2 dc, sc in next dc; rep from * across; change to B in last st.
Row 5: With B, rep Row 3; change to C in last st.
Row 6: With C, rep Row 4; change to A in last st.
Row 7: With A, rep Row 3; change to B in last st.
Rep Rows 2-7 until piece measures 34 in. (86.5 cm) from beg, end with a Row 7.
Last Row: With B, ch 1, turn, sc in first dc, *hdc in next 2 dc, dc in next sc, hdc in next 2 dc, sc in next dc; rep from * across. Fasten off.
FINISHING
Rnd 1: From RS, join C with sl st in any corner, work sc evenly spaced around, working 3 sc in each corner; join with sl st in first sc. Fasten off C.
Rnd 2: From RS, join A with sl st in any st, sc in each st around, working 3 sc in each center corner st; join with sl st in first sc. Fasten off A.
Rnd 3: From RS, join B with sl st in any st, rep Rnd 2. Fasten off B.
Rnd 4: From wrong side, join C with sl st in any corner, sc in first sc, *sk next 2 sc, shell in next sc, sk next 2 sc, sc in next sc; rep from * around, omitting last sc and skipping more or fewer sc at end of rnd as needed; join with sl st in first sc.
Fasten off.
Weave in ends.

| I have done this three times now. Cot size and then two with variegated 8 ply wool double the size. It makes up beautifully. Thanks so much for the pattern and your generosity in sharing it.
