Crochet Hat
Lion Brand® Wool-Ease® Thick & Quick®
GAUGE:
6 stitches = 4 in. (10 cm) in pattern. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
HAT
Ch 29. Row 1: Single crochet in 2nd chain from hook, double crochet in next chain, *single crochet in next chain, double crochet in next chain; repeat from * across, end with a double crochet in last chain - 28 stitches. Row 2: Chain 1, turn, *single crochet in next double crochet, double crochet in next single crochet; repeat from * across.
Repeat Row 2 until piece measures 9 in. (23 cm) from beginning. Fasten off.
FINISHING
Seam ends together. Thread yarn through each stitch of last row and pull to gather. Knot securely. Weave in ends.
Following package directions, make a pompom and tie to top of Hat.
You can be very creative with this basic hat pattern. Instead of a pompom I attached a simple crocheted flower. I made a scarf approximately 36 inches long using the same stitch. My 2 year old granddaughter loved the set so much that I made one for her baby doll, too! I used a piece of yarn to measure the doll's head and made the chain accordingly. I prefer the bulky (5) yarn instead of the super bulky (6.) Instead of the chain 29 for the toddler hat, I increased it to 39 to allow for the yarn difference.
