Elemental Crochet Scarf

GAUGE:
9 sts + 8 rows = 4 in. (10 cm). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
SCARF
Chain 19. Set up Row: Single crochet in 2nd chain from hook, half double crochet in next chain, *single crochet in next chain, half double crochet in next chain, repeat from * to end of chain. The last stitch will be a half double crochet. Row 1: Chain 1, turn. Single crochet in first stitch, half double crochet in next stitch, *single crochet in next stitch, half double crochet in next stitch, repeat from * across. (The last stitch will be a half double crochet.)
Repeat Row 1 until only a small amount of yarn remains.
Fasten off.
FINISHING
Weave in ends.

Versatile and fast. Looks difficult, but is super easy to make. My goal was a fast, one skein scarf and had it done in two days (life kept interfering).
Started with 15 stitches, since my neck is short, and that made the scarf a little longer...I will do it again using the M hook as another reviewer suggested, since my fingers are short, too, and holding the P hook is a little challenging for me. ;-)
