GAUGE: Rounds 1–3 = 4 in. (10 cm). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

COLOR SEQUENCE
Work first round with A, *work 1 round with A, 1 round with B, 1 round with C, 1 round with D; repeat from * (4 rounds) for Color Sequence.
AFGHAN
With A, chain 4; join with slip stitch in first chain to form a ring.
Round 1: With A, chain 3, 2 double crochet in ring, *chain 2, 3 double crochet in ring; repeat from * twice more, chain 2; join with slip stitch in top of beginning chain.
Round 2: Slip stitch in next 2 double crochet, slip stitch in first chain-2 space, chain 3, (2 double crochet, chain 2, 3 double crochet) in same chain-2 space, *chain 1, (3 double crochet, chain 2, 3 double crochet) in next chain-2 space; repeat from * twice more, chain 1; join with slip stitch in top of beginning chain. Fasten off A.
Round 3: Join B in any chain-2 space, chain 3, (2 double crochet, chain 2, 3 double crochet) in same chain-2 space, *chain 1, 3 double crochet in next chain-1 space, chain 1, (3 double crochet, chain 2, 3 double crochet) in next chain-2 space; repeat from * twice more, 3 double crochet in next ch-1 space, chain 1; join with slip stitch in top of beginning chain. Fasten off B.
Round 4: Join C in any chain-2 space, chain 3, (2 double crochet, chain 2, 3 double crochet) in same chain-2 space, *(chain 1, 3 double crochet in next chain-1 space) across to next chain-2 space, chain 1, (3 double crochet, chain 2, 3 double crochet) in next chain-2 space; repeat from * twice more, (chain 1, 3 double crochet in next chain-1 space) across to first chain-2 space, chain 1; join with slip stitch in top of beginning chain. Fasten off C.
Round 5: Join D in any chain-2 space, chain 3, (2 double crochet, chain 2, 3 double crochet) in same chain-2 space, *(chain 1, 3 double crochet in next chain-1 space) across to next chain-2 space, chain 1, (3 double crochet, chain 2, 3 double crochet) in next chain-2 space; repeat from * twice more, (chain 1, 3 double crochet in next chain-1 space) across to first chain-2 space, chain 1; join with slip stitch in top of beginning chain. Fasten off D.
Repeat Round 5, following Color Sequence, with 1 more 3-double crochet group on each side every round until afghan measures 32 in. (81 cm) along each side. Fasten off.
FINISHING
Weave in ends.
