Prayer Shawl

Lion Brand® Vanna's Choice®

GAUGE:

14 sts + 11 rows = 4 in. (10 cm) in hdc. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Making a Gauge Swatch

SHAWL
Ch 4; join with sl st in first ch to form a ring.
Row 1: Ch 3 (counts as hdc, ch 1 here and throughout), turn, work 3 hdc in ring, ch 1, hdc in ring - 5 hdc and 2 ch-1 sp.
Row 2: Ch 3, turn, sk first ch-1 sp, 2 hdc in next hdc, hdc in next hdc, 2 hdc in next hdc, ch 1, hdc in 2nd ch of turning ch - 7 hdc and 2 ch-1 sp.
Row 3: Ch 3, turn, sk first ch-1 sp, 2 hdc in next hdc, hdc in next 3 hdc, 2 hdc in next hdc, ch 1, hdc in 2nd ch of turning ch - 9 hdc and 2 ch-1 sp.
Row 4: Ch 3, turn, sk first ch-1 sp, 2 hdc in next hdc, hdc in next 5 hdc, 2 hdc in next hdc, ch 1, hdc in 2nd ch of turning ch - 11 hdc and 2 ch-1 sp.
Rep Row 4, increasing 1 hdc at beginning and end of each row until Shawl measures 35 in. (89 cm) from beginning. Fasten off.

Prayer Shawl Reviewed by Norma Platt on 2014-02-11 *****
I just finished the shawl. It took awhile to figure out the beginning loop. Once I had that it was easy sailing. The ruffle was so frustrating to get started, that I finally gave up and improvised with a simpler version. Overall. I really like it.
