8 sts = 4 in. (10 cm) in pattern stitch. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Great way to use up old yarn bits! You can use almost any combination of colors and you don't really need to stick to the recommended order of colors (ABCDEFA...) I altered this. It makes a very nice laidback-looking scarf. I added thick fringe and it works perfectly with this pattern (plus uses up more yarn).
It's not a five-star pattern just because of the monotonous 2 or 3 hours I spent weaving in all the ends. Still, it was worth it. Love it!
