GAUGE:
16 sts + 24 rows = 4 in. (10 cm) in St st (k on RS, p on WS).
BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
STITCH EXPLANATION:
Cable Pattern (multiple of 12 sts) Row 1 (RS): P1, k10, p1.
Rows 2 and all WS rows: K1, p10, k1.
Rows 3 and 5: P1, k10, p1.
Row 7: P1, slip next 5 sts to cable needle and hold in front, k5, k5 from cable needle, p1.

Shape Neck and Shoulders
Work 19 (21, 22, 24, 24, 25) sts. Place next 14 (14, 16, 16, 18, 18) sts on st holder for Front neck. Place remaining 19 (21, 22, 24, 24, 25) sts on st holder for right Front.
Left Neck
Dec 1 st at neck edge every row 6 (6, 6, 7, 7, 7) times - 13 (15, 16, 17, 17, 18) sts. Continue even until armhole measures 7 (7 1/2, 8, 8, 8 1/2, 9) in. (18 (19, 20.5, 20.5, 21.5, 23) cm), end with a WS row.

FINISHING
Sew left shoulder seam.
Neckband Transfer sts for back neck from st holder to needle and join yarn. Work across back neck in pattern. Pick up and k 10 (11, 11, 12, 13, 16) sts down left front neck. Transfer sts for front neck from st holder to needle and work across in pattern. Pick up and k 11 (12, 12, 13, 14, 17) sts up right front neck - 61 (63, 67, 71, 77, 83) sts. Work 7 rows in pattern. To keep correct tension, skip Rows 7 and 8 of Cable Pattern on back neck. Sew right shoulder and neck seam. Sew side seams. Weave in ends.

Very quick and easy to knit - only problem I found was the neck was too tight so had to leave the top part of collar unstitched to get over head, but other than that a winner !
