GAUGE:

1 Granny Square = 6 x 6 in. (15 x 15 cm). When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Making a Gauge Swatch

STITCH EXPLANATION:

Popcorn Work 5 dc in indicated st, remove hook from loop, insert hook into first dc of 5-dc group, insert hook back into original loop and draw loop through first dc.

NOTES:

1) To change color at end of a rnd, work joining sl st as follows: insert hook in joining st, yarn over with new color, draw through loops on hook to complete sl st. Cut old yarn leaving a long tail, and gently pull both yarn ends to tighten. Weave in tail of old yarn.

Granny Sampler Blanket Reviewed by Theresa Ball on 2011-08-21 *****
the squares are easy, but I also switched to a smaller hook...no directions for joining..but since my squares are smaller I added a border. I printed out all directions with the colors that I bought because the color scheme pattern was not easy to follow. all in all a very nice project if you have crocheted before..a beginner may have problems because ther are no joining directions..colors are hard to figure out and a smaller needle makes a much better square especially the popcorn square.
