Lion Brand® Vanna's Choice®

GAUGE:

14 double crochet + 8 rows = 5 in. (12.5 cm). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

NOTES:

To change color work last stitch of old color until 2 loops remain on hook, yarn over with new color and draw yarn through 2 loops on hook to complete the stitch.

STRIPE SEQUENCE
*Work 2 rows each with A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, J, K, L, and M; repeat from * for Stripe Sequence.

BLANKET
With A, chain 114.
Row 1: Double crochet in 3rd chain from hook and each remaining chain across – 112 double crochet.
Row 2: Chain 3, turn, double crochet in each stitch across; change to B in last stitch of row. With B, repeat Row 2 twice and change to C in last stitch of last row. Continue to work in Color Sequence, changing colors every 2 rows, until entire Color Sequence has been worked 4 times for a total of 96 rows. Change to D in last stitch of last row.

Edging
Round 1: With D, chain 1, turn, work 3 single crochet in the first double crochet (to make a corner), single crochet in each remaining stitch across top edge to last stitch, work 3 single crochet in last stitch (to make a second corner) and change to K; working along side edge, work single crochet evenly spaced along edge to foundation chain edge of Blanket and change to L in last stitch; working along this edge, work 3 single crochet in first chain (corner made), single crochet across edge to last chain, work 3 single crochet in last chain (corner made) and change to M; single crochet evenly along remaining side edge of Blanket; join with slip stitch in first single crochet. Fasten off.
Round 2: Join F in corner, work 3 single crochet in corner, single crochet in each stitch across to the next corner, work 3 single crochet in corner and change to G; single crochet in each stitch to next corner and change to H; work 3 single crochet in corner, single crochet in each stitch to next corner, work 3 single crochet in corner and change to J; single crochet in each stitch across to first stitch; join with slip stitch in first single crochet. Fasten off. Round 3: Repeat Round 2 working in following color sequence: A, B, C, E. Fasten off.

FINISHING
Weave in ends.

This was the first Lion Brand pattern I used and I'm now on my second afghan. It's a great pattern for both beginner crocheters and beginner pattern-followers! Instead of 12 colors, I picked out 8 that will work in my living room. And now with the second one I'm using the same 8 colors, but making the stripes wider. When I'm done I'll have matching "his and hers" afghans! Thanks, Lion Brand!
