Eyelet Yoke Cardigan

Lion Brand® Cotton-Ease® (new)

GAUGE:

17 sts + 24 rows = 4 in. (10 cm) in St st (k on RS, p on WS). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

STITCH EXPLANATION:

Seed Stitch (over odd number of sts)
Row 1:
*K1, p1; rep from * across, end with k1.
Row 2: K the purl sts and p the knit sts.
Rep Row 2 for Seed st.

NOTES:

Back, Fronts, and Sleeves are worked back and forth on circular needle to armhole, then joined and worked in one piece for yoke. Circular needle is used to accommodate large number of stitches.

Eyelet Yoke Cardigan Reviewed by Robin Davis on 2010-02-08 *****
I love this pattern, yes there are a few little “I wonder why they did that’s” in it but over all a wonderful little cardigan for the one and only granddaughter I have she has one in almost every color and I have made the 6 mo. 1 and 2 year sizes so far, and in many different styles of yarn. I did like the Cotton-Ease the best. Altogether I have made this sweater 8 times. The only changes I made were to knit on circular needles starting with left front, sleeve, back, sleeve, and right front. Then when you start the yoke you can join the front to sleeve piece by knitting together the last st of the front and the first st of the sleeve creating the first decrease on row one of yoke. This helps close up the “holes” under the arms where the pieces join the yoke. on the smaller sizes where you only need to dec 3 st you can make a st somewhere where it won’t be too noticeable. As far as the buttonhole goes sometimes I use small bead like buttons and do not need to make a buttonhole. The other times I have had a little trouble with the yarn over from a purl to a knit two tog. but it all works out.
