GAUGE:

10 sts = 4 in. [10 cm] in pattern. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Making a Gauge Swatch

NOTES:

To change color, work last stitch until there are 2 loops on hook, yarn over with new color to complete stitch.

New Wave Throw Reviewed by Danielle on 2011-12-02 ****
I like this one because it doesn't allow for large holes between stitches (it's tight) and you can do a LOT with variations on coloring. I increased the cast on to 124, and used a larger needle to make a version of this for my brother who wanted a blanket that would cover him completely. He's over six foot, so I also had to double the yarn amount. I'll be making lots of these!
