Make It Yours Purse-Windowpane Plaid
Lion Brand® Lion® Wool
GAUGE: 12 sc + 15 rows = 4 in. (10 cm) before felting.
EXACT GAUGE IS NOT ESSENTIAL FOR THIS PROJECT.
BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
STITCH EXPLANATION: Surface Chain
Insert hook from right side to wrong side. Place yarn on hook with slip knot and draw loop to right side. *Insert hook from right side to wrong side through next sp, yarn over and draw loop through work and loop on hook; rep from * to complete design.

Loop

FINISHING
With B, work 3 lines of surface chain spaced evenly across piece. Weave in ends.
Felting
Wash by machine on a hot wash/cold rinse cycle with detergent and several pieces of clothing to agitate. To felt additionally, dry by machine on a regular setting until almost dry. Remove from dryer and pull to about 10 x 6 in. (25.5 x 15 cm).
Fold piece to about 4 x 6 in. (10 x 15 cm), leaving a 2 in. (5 cm) flap and aligning surface chain lines at sides. Sew side seams. Sew button opposite loop. |

The instructions are a bit confusing here. Do a row of B after every 6 rows of A. Then, do 7 rows of surface sc. Start by doing one every 6 stitches, then do one almost at the edge on the other end from where you started, as shown in the picture.
Lion Wool felts up beautifully. It might look at first like the loop is too big for the button, but it gets quite a bit smaller after felting. The loop can then be stretched out if necessary.
