GAUGE: 12 stitches = 4 in. (10 cm) in Stockinette stitch (knit on right side, purl on wrong side). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Per prior review, this pattern curls and looks unfinished. I cast on 12 stitches with bulky yarn such as Thick and Quick and used size 10 needles (gauge was 4 stitches=1 inch)
Then I knit the first 2 stitches, P,K (seed stitch)& K last 2 stitches in row. Work until about 18-19" and bind off. Very cool!
Other pattern that turned out well: Cast on 12 stiches, bulky yarn, #10 needles. (again 4 stitches= 1"). Use needles that give you this gauge. P first two stitches than do stockinette st ( K row one, P row Two) til last two stitches and pearl. For variety 1 did this for 6 rows than seed stitch for 4 rows (remembering to pearl first 2 and last 2 stitches).
Both turned out really well and no edge curl issues. Experiment and make your own pattern as I did. It's fun!!
